1 Durham rebels January 1069, Norman garrison slaughtered.

4 Midsummer 1069: Godwine Haroldson attacks Tavistock; his force is surprised and dispersed.

5 Summer 1069: Montacute Castle and Exeter attacked; besiegers dispersed by relief forces from Bristol and Winchester.

6 Summer 1069: Eadric the Wild leads an attack on Shrewsbury, burning the town. Serious rebellion in the borders.

7 August 1069: Danish fleet appears off the east coast and works its way north.

8 September 1069: Danes storm York, which is badly damaged by fire; the cathedral is destroyed.

9 William marches north from Forest of Dean.

10 William delayed by river floods, but arrives at York and defeats rebels.

11 Danes retire to base in Isle of Axholme.
